Acrostic Poem

Learning writing could be a pleasure,
You could have no doubt, believe yourself.
Nothing can be done without hope and confidence, just like
Now I start to write with Muse in my mind.

Listening to the sounds and observe around,
I describe them with my praise.
Valuable memories of an exquisite music box,
Elegance and charm of an old street,
Snowflakes are melting on a delicate daisy.

Fogs on a coast in an adorable morning,
Oak ridge and a gentle breeze,
Raindrops are just like poetic notes.

Think a while and write down some words,
Here, you could see my acrostic poem,
Either use imagination or concrete objects.

Day after day, practice makes perfect,
A breath of fresh air is enough when writing an article.
You and yours could give a try.

An Extraordinary Zone

Sometimes, thinking from the opposite way is fabulous and amusing to practice brainstorm ability. When people practice their writing, they do positive topics such as “How to Get Good Grades,” “How to be A Well-learned Student.” However, why don’t we write down an essay about “How to Get an F in Writing Class?”

To get an A is very easy, because many people know how to get it. To my mind, it is more difficult to get an F than people can imagine. You must observe the progress as follows. First, you don’t have to come to the class very often. If you do, you would hear all the lessons and know the tips on writing. Second, you have to fool around all the time. Don't spend your time on reading literature or useful information on writing. Third, be a procrastinator. Don't submit your homework on time, or just don't do it. In summary, if you follow the progress, you would get an F without difficulty.

It is a marvelous way to make our thinking more comical and witty. That’s fantastic. It will let our brain full of extraordinary ideas. Maybe a brilliant idea will occur to you next time. To be a humorous person and you will enjoy all the time in life.

The Beginning

When I finished the book “The Knight in Rusty Armor,” in the end of the story, there was a row of words printed on the last page, they were “The Beginning.”

It was a surprise to readers. We always take things for granted, look all the progress as usual, lead our lives ordinary, and think plain as plain may be. We seldom pay attention to things or people around us; we are getting numb and insensitive. What’s wrong with us? We can be a curious and dynamic child, not a person in an old age. We can be a writer, to write down new ideas and observe customers around in a coffee shop, or to go to the woods and live deliberately. Life could be more pleasant if we try to look things in a different way.

If you want to paint your life colorful, you don’t have to stick to any rules. You are the master of yourself, so you can choose the bright side of life. No one can hold you down, and nothing can make you depressed. Take the road you are going to take, open up your eyes, and believe in yourself.

Fathoming Mysteries

In the sonnet "The World Is Too Much with Us" the poet contrasts Nature with the world of covetousness. Because we are numb to the richness of Nature, we may be forfeiting our souls. Wordsworth looks himself as having insight to the problems which exist between humanity and nature. The materialistic progress being made by human beings is not without consequence. The destruction of the environment by mankind's shortsightedness will continue as Wordsworth has foreseen. The change hoped for by the author will not come as a result of an initiative by people, but as an uproar by Mother Nature in the form of a battle. This battle will bring forth a victory for the environment and stimulate a rebirth for the world.

Right to Know

In my opinion, an elected politician or a candidate can hold reputations because of publicizing by journalists. So journalists are allowed to write about politicians, and citizens have the right to know the truth about and supervise them.

A politician is always observed by people, because people trust politicians who have excellent personalities and match their own words with deeds. The press which has power to supervise politicians will make pressure on politicians, and they will behave correctly and cautiously, because they want to make themselves supported by people.

Consequently, if some politicians have scandals such as extra-marital affairs, opinion polls must go down. Through those politicians may say scandals do nothing with politics, some people think politicians who have these personal defects are not capable of judging right from wrong in the future, not mention leading people and tide over crisis.

In recent years, some people point out that some journalists go too far on private affairs of politicians. These excessive reports infect the quality of news, and make people feel a strong antipathy towards them. Therefore, the press must examine their own thoughts and motives, and think about the rights and interests of audience. In this way, people can supervise politicians, but these politicians can also have their privacy.

In sum, journalists should be allowed to write about the private life of an elected politician or a candidate for election, but we should respect their own privacy, the press should not go too far beyond the demarcation line of their rights. The public have a right to know about all the things, but not to be taught to invade the individual’s right to privacy.

Debate on School Uniform

I am of the opinion that school should get rid of uniforms. In appearance, wearing uniforms helps students resist peer pressure and personal security. However, it can’t stand testing. I am against this idea for the following reasons.

First, uniforms discourage individuality and creativity. Uniforms were better suited to an age of rote learning and military-style discipline than to the more exploratory and creative values of modern education.

Second, wearing uniforms gives rise to hostility between schools. Uniforms make students identifiable and emphasis the divisions between schools, making it easy for bullying and fight to develop between students.

Last but not least, uniforms hinder the development of students’ ability in aesthetics, and the right to choose what to wear. If students are allowed to choose what they like, it will make them more self-confident.

In sum, school should get rid of uniforms for fine mental development of students, reducing violence, and the welfare of the students.

Depict A Scene

I was sleeping soundly late in the night. All of a sudden, I heard a weird sound and I was roused suddenly. The sound was getting louder and louder, and it seems like something rushed toward me quickly. Then, I saw something out of the window had a sort of transparent color and flying in the air. There was a huge ghost stared at me fiercely. I was frightened to death and screamed with horror.

Script Writing

Diana and Eric fell in love with each other seven years ago, and then they married and soon had two sons, Kevin and James, within three years. Afterwards, Diana thought they had a happy family, but in reality that always remained as one of her idealistic dreams. One day, Diana found that Eric began to drink a lot and he often did violence to her. Then usually, when he sobered up, he regretted his misconduct and brought her something such as a bouquet of flowers to make up. As time went by, she was finally heart-broken. She decided to take some actions to escape from the recurrent violence.

Life is like waves, they go up and down. Everyone has sorrow and bad experiences, but they are elements of life. We may meet mental depressions in life, such as a boyfriend leaves you, fails mid-term. However, everyone has the ability to climb from downs of life, and you do, too. If you die, you would refuse the chances in the future and you couldn’t change your life to be a splendid one. A Poem

In his poem Virtue, George Herbert uses the typical for the metaphysical poets of his time arguments. In each of the stanzas he makes a different argument consisting of two parts. In the first part he describes why the object he has chosen is beautiful and in the second why it should die. The rose, the day and the spring are all temporary objects. The fourth stanza is the only different one. He states that the soul cannot die, because it is everlasting. His idea is that soul does not disappear, but only moves from one world into the other. As a whole, the idea of the poem is that virtuous soul need not fear death.

Alexander the Boy

This book, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day", written by Judith Viorst. The story in the book describes a boy named Alexander would move to Australia. However, he suffered many bad things and they all happened in a day. He got carsick on his way to school. In the school, the teacher said his picture was bad. After class, his classmate told him that he wasn't his best friend anymore. After school, his mother took all the children to the dentist, but only he was found a cavity in his mouth. When he went home, he got hurt because the elevator closed on his foot. And then, he fought with other kid but was scolded by his mother. In the evening, he got soap in his eyes when taking a bath, and had his hated lima beans for dinner. After so many bad things happened, he slept on a hot bad and with an ugly pajamas.

From this morning, Alexander found that everything was going bad, and he thought that he would have a very bad day. He scold by his teacher and mother, not be esteem as a friend, and got hurt by an elevator. He was angry but he couldn’t spoke it out to his families or classmates. He couldn't stand on that but all he could do is just slept and took it as a day. He complained it to his mother, but his mother said some days are like that in Australia. Though he was very sad and angry, he still had to call it a day, and went to his bed.I think people always have bad things in daily life, but we can just smile and take it as a experience. Stop complaining and face to the bright of life.

Two of Everything

The story is about parents who didn't agree with each other and their children's reactions and improvement. Some families have discord, and it would be better if they live apart and also good for their children and living standard. A wife and a husband don't always have the same ideas and thought, so sometimes they have quarrel, or even all the time. We can't ask someone to suit another because everyone is unique and different individual. We can disagree with others' ideas, but we have to respect them, too. When a person find out that he always argues with someone, he can try to solve this problem. If he didn't solve it, both of them would have bad mood when they meet each other or do something else in a day. Let us be a person who always looks at the bright side of life. Don't be shadowed by those quarrels.

Reflection of "The Missing Piece Meets the Big O"

In this book, “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O,” its main pictures are simple triangles, circles, and lines. Those lines are just like the way or stage of life, and people search for a circle to fit. In the journey of searching, people realize how to be an adaptable and appreciative circle. By those lines, the writer composed simple pictures and presented a philosophy of life.

In the beginning of the story, The Missing Piece kept waiting and search its mate, suffered many conflicts and hurts. But in the end of the story, it tried another aspect to look into its life. And its personality changed. In a small corner of its mind, it found that it had its own talents, and it knew how to appreciate and develop its abilities. It realized that after it found a mate and became a circle, its life still had defects and discord. What it had to do was to change itself, to give a chance to know itself. Then, it had self-identity and confidence to roll by itself, and met Big O again.

The narrator wrote down few letters in the story, but this could give readers a wide space to think about the story, readers’ lives, and themselves. To know the philosophy of life, everyone has to learn from his practical experiences. We may sometimes in the valley of life, but everyone has the ability to climb up by his own. Our mind will grow up with time, disrupted by new notions and views, and then, we change our mind. Because we accumulate lots of curious experiences, and learn to be a master of our own. In the last page of the book, no word had been written down, but only a crooked line. That means, this is the way of our life, and it makes us to think about how to play roles well in our life, or what is priceless and worthy to search in our life. Life is like a journey, may everyone could lead a marvelous life.

A difference of one

Joe is a basketball athlete, one day his team played with Jordan High. He thought they could win the game with assurance. However, his opponents attacked them and gained many points, and they won finally. Joe was frustrated and exhausted. And he had to take mid-term exam the next day. His coach wanted him to pass the exam, so he could stay in his team and play another game with Garfield next week. After his dinner, he was very tired. So he slept until next morning. Because of no studying, he got bad points. He found that if he has gotten one more points, he could pass. But the teacher said, the score on your test paper is just like the points on the game, you can’t argue with referee, nor can your teacher.

The most impressed section of the story to me is when the teacher told Joe that it is useless to argue with her, just as the saying goes, “What is done cannot be undone.” To say more words or more compliments do nothing about this circumstance. What he could do is try his best for another time.

Sometimes we make efforts on accomplishing our goals, but we fail by an insignificant gap. Through we might feel bitter regret about them; nevertheless, it is useless and naive when we complain about them all the time, or argue with others after the results are given out. What we can do is to learn lessons from these experiences and try again, to ensure next time we could perform well. After all, adversity leads to prosperity.

Amelia Bedelia

Amelia Bedelia is a book written by Peggy Parish, pictured by Fritz Siebel. It is an amusing story about Amelia Bedelia, a servant who works for Mr. and Mrs. Rogers for the first day. She did things on the list which Mrs. Rogers had written, but she misunderstood the meaning of some words. She changed towels, dressed the chicken, and so on. When Mr. and Mrs. Rogers came back, they were surprised. But they didn’t fire her because she cooked a delicious lemon-meringue pie to surprise Mr. and Mrs. Rogers.

My favorite part of this story is after Mr. and Mrs. Rogers came home, they were surprised about what Amelia Bedelia had done. They saw lighting bulbs hanged outside the house, towels were cut out funny patterns. Those scenes are really interesting.

Puns such as “trim”, “draw”, and “measure”, people sometimes misunderstand what they mean. And people are confused about these things, but after we understand what they really mean, we can just laugh about these, because they are experiences in our life, don’t they?

Summary of The Mixed-Up Chameleon

The book, “The Mixed-Up Chameleon”, written by Eric Carle, is a kind of children literature. It is illustrated colorful, and children and adult would like it at first sight. The story is about a chameleon which can change its color with environment. One day, it visited a zoo, where all kinds of animals are there. Than it wished it could be big like Pole bear, smart like a fox, or handsome, funny like other animals. Finally, its colors were mixed up, and it got tired. It wanted to be itself again. And it enjoyed its life a before.

I love the last section of the story. A chameleon can change its color to whatever nit wants, but it finally known that it is useless to be like others. I love its smile in the end of the story.

People always think others’ talents are better than theirs, also good appearances and wealth, etc. but why don’t we think more about ourselves? We must be confident and optimistic on ourselves. Life could be miserable if we always jealous of other people. And we can lead our life happy, because we are the masters of ourselves.

Summary of “Piggybook”

The book “Piggybook”, written by Anthony Browne, is about four people in a family. Mr. Piggott and his two sons, Simon and Patrick were lazy to do the housework. Mrs. Piggott was tired to be a domestic drudge every day, so she left home. After Mrs. Piggott disappeared, Mr. Piggott and his sons transformed into pigs, and didn’t know how to fend themselves. After Mrs. Piggott came back, they did the chores voluntarily, and the story ended with their smiles.

Summary of “Luka”

The song “Luka” is written and sung by Suzanne Vega. The songwriter creates a character based on a boy named Luka. She imagines that he was an abused child, who lived miserable. She describes the voice from the child’s heart. His house was not harmonious; sometimes his neighbors would hear some noises. He was depressed, but he didn’t want others to know about his trouble, just left him alone. His only wish was less discord in his room. The song describes the life of an abused child, and the audience can be easily involved in the song, and feel the boy’s injured soul.

Summary of Changing Roles: Stay-at-Home Dads

The article “Changing Roles: Stay-at-Home Dads” talks about parental roles are changing with the time in recent years. A husband spent few hours with his newborn child many years ago. But now, people’s thoughts change. Taking care of children is not different from genders; both mother and father have to take responsibility for raising children. According to research, a father plays a very important role in a child’s development. Having a healthy family, children would get high-quality growth, and the society would not have much discord.

Tom’s Diner

One morning, Suzanne sat in a coffee shop, Tom’s Diner. It was raining. So she asked the waiter to give her a cup of coffee. She looked around, watching people come and go in the diner, and someone waiting in the rain. She noticed some news and found something interesting on the paper, too. Suzanne’s thought came to her own from passers-by. She recalled someone’s familiar voice because of the rain. Finally, she finished her coffee and went to catch a train.

My Favorite Song

"Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)" is a dramatic, piano-driven song produced by Greg Wells and Kara DioGuardi for A Little More Personal (Raw), the second album by American singer and actress Lindsay Lohan. It was released as the album's first single.

The song features scenes from Lohan's childhood, depicting her father's drunkenness and domestic abuse. From it, we can find that she is astonished and frightened. Her father spent much of her time in prison when she was young. It was a distress when she saw her parents arguing in the living room. In the song, Lohan wants her father not to leave her alone, when she needs someone to support her.

To Lohan, the song is a mental healing to her. She writes and sings the song, creates an outlet for her depressive emotion, shares her sorrow and grievance to the audience in her amazing music. In addition, we can observe her remarkable talents and she is a woman of stability.

My Introduction

My name is Lynn. I like reading books, sketching pictures, and gardening. Reading books help me gain wisdom, look into things with different aspects, and give me useful advices and ideas in my life. Sketching pictures and gardening make me feel the tranquility and delightful atmosphere of nature, also relieve my exhaustion and pressure. I play basketball and jog in my leisure time, too. Plenty of exercise helps me keep in shape. Sometimes, I watch movies. They may be bittersweet stories, introspective experiences, or epitomes of people’s life. Those interests enrich my spirit and diversify my life.

I came to Chung Shan Medical University with gladness last year. The university is a good place which provides me with a good studying environment. It has abundant and various information. Although I’m a freshman, I try my level best to learn new things, and prepare well for all the events in the future.

I go to university to pursue my interests, and to receive training and qualifications. I went to the Department of Applied Foreign Languages. I deem it necessary to have good understanding of foreign languages. With the growth of international contacts, I am exposed to many languages nowadays, so I have to concentrate on studies in order to proficient in them. Therefore, what I have to do is to learn those languages, to practice speaking them, and to read books in those languages. I should broad my mind and take an active attitude toward new knowledge and information.

Nothing can be down without hope and confidence. In the university, I wish I am capable of solving problems but not just give up. When I look back on my memories someday in the future, they will give account of my colorful life.
